Hello all my first post here, newbie here.

I'm gonna start a "big brand" website today (a'la CCarter) in a pretty broad "health/fitness/lifestyle" niche. Gonna pay 50 dollars for a nice theme, pay 20-40 dollars for an high quality article to benchmark my own writing to and actually put my money into this project. Previously I've only been dabbling in this internet marketing stuff.

I currently have a couple of sites on hostgator baby plan but I'd prefer having a new hosting for this site.

What are peoples recommendations here for a good hosting? I've been looking into knownhost and it looks good right now, VPS for around 40 dollars a month and room to add features in case I start getting more traffic.

This is gonna be a longterm project (1+ year) and I really wanna get the hosting done right, don't want to be a cheapskate and get a shared hosting for this one.

My budget is around 20-40 dollars per month for hosting.

I would suggest getting HQ shared hosting for starters and once you get any traffic move to VPS.
Migrating websites is easy as 1-2-3 but if you will start with VPS then you are just losing money. Better invest those monies in marketing.
Stablehost was always good for me, or even better - you could go with Digital Ocean, throw Cpanel on op of it so you can easily scale. You would pay around $15/mo for such a setup.

Thanks for the answer. You might be right, at the moment I'm able to put around 100-150 dollars per month into this website and maybe 40 dollars per month for a vps is not the best choice right now. Can use that money for something better.

I will check out Digital Ocean, seems pretty legit and yea Cpanel for me is a must. I just need to get a quality hosting.

Yeah, then DO is certainly best option for you since you can scale up with one click.
Spending around $15/mo is still a lot, but it is best option if you really want to get this part secured.
If you will buy license from resellers - they will install Cpanel for you for free + offer support.
Also 100-150 dollars is not much for marketing tbh. You really need to plan your strategy properly before you will burn through your investment.

Yea it's not much but most that I can do at this time, in few months I should have 200-300 dollar monthly budget but atleast in the beginning I'm gonna be mostly bootstrapping this fucker. Targeting longtail keywords with little traffic and little competition and I really don't plan seeing traffic until a few months in.

But getting the initial traction is gonna be the most hard part and I need to check more on where to use my monies at the moment. Not alot that I can do when it comes to SEO as I don't wanna be buying shitty links and PPC is a big no no as I imagine the ROI is not gonna be there.

If you are looking or a vps system I would recommend Knownhost, they are fast, support is good and never really have any issues with them.

Shared hosting is better option to start your website but you have to find better web host to get some SEO benefits.. For example if you get Dedicated IP, SSL, Fast Server Speed with CDN optimized servers then it will boost up your ranking as well. I have seen many giant web hosts like GoDady and HostGator has crappy packages...

I can understand what you need as I am here for a long time. Anyway I would suggest you to use Godaddy hosting because they are very reliable even they always offer some extraordinary coupne code.

If you need a vps then go with Tmzvps, they do provide SSD servers and if you are looking for shared hosting, then theres nothing better then crocweb.com.

Nowadays, it is very easy and affordable to own a website. CMS platforms like WordPress and Joomla are free and easy to use, a .com domain costs roughly $10 annually; and a good shared hosting account costs less than $10 per month. It has come to a point where everyone can truly have his/her piece of land on the World Wide Web.

I have used ipower, hostgator and bluehost. They have good packages and customer service. The cost also affordable even for small website owners.
