I recently completed a years internship doing "E-Marketing", and my successor wrote "Social Media" under interests on her CV. I immediately marked her down as an idiot, but my manager was beyond impressed and hired her. The job doesn't even require any social media.
For most companies, social is a waste of time. I have had to spend far more time than I appreciate having to convince my clients to not run with this. The cost and effort required is far higher than anyone thinks.
Even those companies that put a massive effort into being funny, not being boring, etc get a very low ROI.
