I got my first trial pair of contacts yesterday after a checkup with my optometrist. The thing is, I can take them off, but I find it impossible to put them on (my eye closes and tears up as soon as the contacts touch the pupil, and sometimes when I make it to the pupil, it refuses to attach, and flips back onto my fingertips... Anyone else gone through this before? I'm on 40th attempt (no joke) to get on my right contact lens...

I hate contact lenses, too, but can't see without 'em. There are NO comfortable contact lenses out there, unfortunately. The best ones on the market are supposedly the Accuvue Oasis, but IMO they are no different than anything else.
I have Acuvue ones. They feel awesome when they're on... Putting them on is the challenge for me though.
Lenses aren't bad at all. You must be a fantastically huge pussy.
But no seriously, try this: put the lense on your index finger on the very tip DEAD center so the only point of contact on your finger is the outside center of the lense then hold your eye open by pulling down the bottom lid and apply the bottom --> top order and it should go on fine. This shit used to happen to me all the time and still does and that's how I fix it. Takes a few tries, works though.

Sometimes it's best just to pack them up back in the case and give it an hour before you try again.
Also sometimes you get a bad contact (if their disposable), or you tear it and you're trying to put a fucked up contact in your eye (which your eye doesn't like).
This year like Big Joe i got Lasik. Best $3k i've ever spent.
You get used to it.

This is the best way to do it.
Tip of finger, plus approach the eye as if you are going to poke it (slowly of course).
man the fuck up, realise that its not really uncomfortable to touch your ye. Just open it up and poek around a buit wihtout a lens on your finger and you will realise how brutal you can be. Then you just jam that fucker into your eye in 200 mph and it will stay there.
and yes there are comfortable contacts I fucking love Coopervision Biofinty or Pure Vision they breath alot and you can even sleep with them

I wore contacts for years and finally got lasik. I tell everybody they would never ever regret getting it. If you think about how much money you'll spend in the long run on contacts, solution and the time invested and putting the fucking things in every morning it pretty much pays for itself.
I got my lasik for about $2300.00 with a lifetime warranty if it regresses to a certain point.
Yea it takes time to get use them, Like someone else said put it on your index finger (make sure its clean! or else when you put them in there just gonna be irritating and you have to take it back out. What i do is put it on my index finger make sure none of the edges are touching the finger so it doesnt flip back on my finger. use my left index finger to hold the top of my eye lid open and pull the bottom one down with my middle finger on my right hand. and put it in.
edit: basically like this, you should have any problems with your eye lids wanting to close if you hold em.

Hah, don't let me start on how long it took me to finally get them in my eyes in a timely fashion.
The very first time I tried placing them in, I probably spent about 2-3 hours in the eye office. Just like you mentioned, the eyes would tear up or there would be excessive blinking.
Good news is after getting it in a dozen or so times, it becomes a lot easier. You just need to get used to touching your eye. I've been wearing contacts for about 4 years now and I get them in my eye in less than 5 seconds for both eyes. Once you become less sensitive with your eyes you just pop them in.
What I recommend though is finding your own way to put the contacts in your eye. I know that eye doctors tell you to hold your eye open this way and place contact lense on this finger etc. But I had the most success when I invented my own way of holding my eye open and placing the lense in.

I already have glasses, but some of my lady friends keep encouraging me to get contacts (6 so far), so I did since school starts next week.
try putting a drop of solution in the contact lens before putting it in your eye. It'll buffer between the lens and your eye so it feels a little less weird when putting it in.

and yes, just stick with contacts. as you grow older, you tend to get used it and it is much better than wearing glasses.
After wearing contacts for years myself, I want to get Lasik...only I'm now old enough to start needing multifocal lenses so I can see what's up close too.
So if I get lasik, I'll still need glasses to read.
However...I've heard though that they now offer Lasik for close-sighted people. I wanna be corrected for both at the same time...wondering if that's even possible.

Basically what erifdekciw is saying. I've been wearing contacts for like 11 years. Open your eye up wide, put the contact on your index finger of the hand that corrisponds to which eye you are going to put it in (right hand for right eye, left hand for left eye). You don't have to jam it in there, but it should be more of a quick tap motion, it should take to the eye. You might have to blink a few times to get it to set.
If it burns when you put it in your hands may not be clean, or there might be something on the lens. Place the lens back in the case with solution, you don't have to let it sit long. Try again. If it still burns you need to try and clean your lens. Place the lens in the palm of your hand and spray contact solution on it, covering it. Using your other hand, take your index finger and swirl the lens around in the solution. Flip the lens and repeat. Place the lens back in your case with solution in it. Rinse or wash your hands. Try and put it in again.
Always works for me. Your first week or so is going to be a struggle, but after that you'll be golden.

Sounds like you need Monovision lasik. My father in law got that done. He's complained about it for a few years now though. He's in his 50's so I don't know if that makes a difference.
