2.4 million records of raw data processed per-hour. I won't explain, but just absolutely, breath-takingly, pristinely beautiful, and executed with such concise precision. Fuck me that felt good to watch the server rip through all that data so quickly, after so many revamps and modifications of the code. And it's just some piece of shit, $70/month server.

Development is such an art form, isn't it? I mean, it's one thing to be able to learn the technicalities and bang out code, but a totally different thing to be able to simply open up blank Notepad, start typing, and construct a beautiful application that will be used by many, with precision and quality. That's what separates the coders from the developers.

And holy fuck do I ever sound like the drunk geek of the geeks. Whew!

No, I don't use Notepad, but just saying. Actually, I started with basically Notepad, or actually Homesite, which is just a fancy version of Notepad.

But no, use my own custom IDE / infrastructure.

The thing took me forever, but it kicks ass. IDE that gets installed on your computer, and all work (read/writes) flows through it via the central network. Automated check-in/out, automated version control, standardized components allowing you to easily train amateur developers to provide high-end solutions, 100% modular based, automated packaging, one click and upgrade is packaged & released and available to all customer's systems, excellent licensing system & built-in encoding, and oh so much more.

It kicks ass, and couldn't imagine doing development without it. Too bad it'll probably never see the light of day, and will stay locked away in my private chest. :)

After I sold my first software company, this infrastructure was my next project / company. Will never make it to the public I doubt though. Had a VC firm in Minneapolis who was going to fund it to completion, but they were too greedy, plus required me to move there and work in a cubicle. Had a few other people willing to invest, including one with a net worth of about $600 million, but I didn't accept any of them, as I didn't have a solid plan forward. Still don't, hence why it'll probably never be released.

I deal with large email lists and the first time I tried to parse them omg it took forever. Now I have it down and can parse massive lists in no time. It takes a while to get your algo for processing them tight, but once you do it feels good.

By large I mean 50 - 100+ million line csv files that are formatted like my 6 year old son made them. Small ones are around 1 million.

My language of choice for processing large text files is C++. What language did you right yours in?

That's awesome bro and for the first time in a long time (with WF dev section) I'm really impressed. Explain how you managed to handle autocomplete and a lot of the other features people have come to love in IDEs. From a programmers point of view of course.

So what you're telling me is you aren't going to share your IDE?

Seriously, I am not as big of a coder as some of you guys are - but even I can totally related to that sense of accomplishment. (And might I add the fact that we can sense it over and over again, each time a new process cycle runs - and every new cycle is better than the previous one).

Good on you mate. Cheers.

Building my own IDE sounds about as useful as running full speed into a brick wall. I don't think I'll ever understand this forum's fascination with masochistically reinventing the wheel over and over again.

I literally said outloud to myself "I bet dchuk is going to hate this" as soon as I saw the IDE screenshot.

Did you end up using SQL, Kiopa?

Have you considered releasing it under an open source license or even as shareware? I c ant be the only person that would like to give it a shot.

He says he originally did it as a scrapped project/venture. So he didnt just do it for shits and giggles.

On that note, dude, sell the rights off then. I'm sure you could find a buyer somewhere, and it wouldnt stop you from using it personally. Unless you plan on picking the project up again, evantually.

It's cool that you built your own environment, but I can't help but think that a person would only be driven to do this because Windows is painful and horrible. There's no reason to do this on *nix systems, because Unix IS a programming environment. Actually, there is one awesome environment that runs on top of *nix, but it was originally developed for ITS... Emacs FTW.

Anyway, I'm not trying to bring you down. I love seeing people get excited about programming. I still think I suck at coding, but I love how it feels when I create beautiful code, or when I look at someone else's code and understand how it could be done much better.

Keep it up!
