I had a small $ payment from a US network who doesn't do paypal recently, so they sent it by cheque.
If you've ever tried to cash a US cheque at a UK bank, you know they rape with fees for the privilege, so I had a hunt around and came across Auctionchex - Online auction payments exchange and escrow service
I thought the site was shady looking, so gave the bloke a call to check them out before I sent my $ across... he was sound, so I sent it.
They made the bank transfer the next day, so it's in my account 3 days later, and because I set up for direct transfer, they charged me a one off £3.50 fee, but no further fees.
I have no idea how they do that so quickly without exposing themselves to the cheque bouncing, but I'm pretty happy about it.
The only downside is that I think their exchange rates are close to the retail rate, so if you're exchanging a lot of money it will probably get expensive - but if that's the case, you'd get the network to do a wire transfer.
