I'm building a price index for marijuana. We're crowdsourcing people's data to determine the street value of weed. So far we have over 1000+ entries which has allowed us to calculate some averages and map them with googlemaps.

Check it out here: The Price of Weed, Marijuana, Cannabis - PriceOfWeed.com
If you want to participate, you can anonymously submit data right on the homepage.

Suggestions and comments?

lol this is great. Do you have any way of identifying bad data from trolls, dealers, or other people that might try to sabotage this?

I don't smoke but I'm surprised that it's so expensive in Hawaii, everyone and their mom grows it here. Nice site by the way.

Probably statistical regression to eliminate outliers that skew the average too much.

heh that's pretty cool. Wonder how long till the DEA subpeona your server records.

cool concept.

just a note i dont think u should default to an oz for the price since if users submit a price for anything less it'd skew your data quite a bit over time...

The DEA would have no grounds on which to subpoena the server.

Plus we don't associate IPs with entries anyway, so the best they could do is see who visited the site, or try some voodoo backtracing.

Nice site. I would switch 'and I recently paid $' to something like 'and the going rate is'

You could expand on it and do priceofcrack.com or priceofhookers.com

Make a whole price index for illegal shit, could be interesting.

Great site!

One problem I see though is you can't take a price of anything less than an ounce and display it as the actual cost of an ounce, does that make sense?

Like if you pay X for a half ounce doesn't mean you paid 2X that price for an ounce.

So you may want to let people decide how to display the data and segregate it by the different options. Also some places like here you can buy a "dime" for $10 which is basically 0.7 grams so that might be an option you want to add too so depending on how much data you want you might wanna go below the 5 grams. Just my 2 cents depending on how accurate you want to be :)

Good luck with the site.
