Does anyone have any solid tips on hooking up with a decent designer or programmer? I have a bunch of projects and would like to maintain a steady relationship with a few people, instead of going the elance route everytime and dealing with frustration and lots of mediocre work.

Obviously there isn't a magic formula or anything, but if anyone who's had success in this area is willing to share how they did I'd it, I appreciate it.

Also, if you know a great designer or programmer who is looking for work, let me know.

Thanks,
Joe

I just looked up programmers online - I found a good web shop that did some good work and called them up to request an estimated quote if they thought they could do my job.

If you want the company PM me and I'll send it to you - so far they have been easy to deal with. They are a chain shop, and have bases in a few cities.

They were also surprisingly inexpensive. Be careful when asking around though, I was quoted for the same project from another shop well over $10k more than what I ended up paying with these guys. They also wouldn't have let me keep my source code, or the rights to my work - I would have had a 'perpetual license' from them. Fuck that. If I am paying someone to program something from me I want the code, and the rights to the work done.

Be careful about that - the shop that wouldn't have let me keep my code seemed very high end and legit, but they still didn't bring that topic up until I asked them about it specifically.

If you are looking for a basic project, just go on rentacoder or one of those other sites. I'm working on a small project with a guy now on there and he has been very reliable and easy to deal w/ so far.

If you are worried about them going ahead and stealing your work you can make up a 'non-disclosure agreement' and have them sign it. I don't really know how easy it would be to enforce, but at least it is something!
Good luck!

Im not sure what language you guys are looking for programming in but im always looking for freelance work for HTML, CSS and PHP/MySQL

Make sure to hone up on your specification skills.
Getting yourself understood by a programmer is not rocket science, but it takes some time and thought about how to write about your needs/wants.

I have a good programmer but I have a hard enough time getting him to work for me.

Does anyone know of any really good designers that are available and easy to work with? PM me if you know someone, thanks.

Full time is the way to go; when you got guys working on a part time basis they are either unemployed (why?), students, have another full time job, the list goes on. Either way, you end up waiting a month for a 2 day project because the guy was goofing around.

Thats not to bash the programmers on here, I've gotten some good work done from here in the past ( SSHit<head> was great.) When you got a project to do, having someone who is sitting there waiting for you totell them what to do is just so, so much better. Minor bug? Bam, done. When you on a project to project basis you may wait a day. Thats fucking killer on productivity.

In these developing countries, specifically the big cities, there is a shortage of good programmers caused by all the outsourced labor. Average programmer incomes are going up by double digits yearly, sometimes doubling. My programmer was headhunted from another company -- he wasn't hanging around on rent a coder looking for work.

If you do post on getafreelancer be real specific on the requirements of the actual people who work on this. It can be a real price saver. However you don't want someone to talk like this.

Hi I can do project for you. My name "Dave" Mujajajajdakodako.
