Feds, states announce major action against get rich quick schemes

Penbrook Productions, run by Michael Allen Brooks, promoted a work-at-home scheme
online that used spokesperson “Angela Penbrook,” and charged $197 for the opportunity to become a “certified” rebate processor, earning as much as $225 per hour. According to the FTC complaint, after purchasing, consumers discovered that the work-at-home “opportunity” had nothing to do with processing rebates, but merely instructed the consumers about becoming an affiliate marketer.

I lol'd

What movie is your sig from?

Looks like David Duchovny in the opening of Showtime's "Californication."

All this news about cracking down and stuff may help calm people's fears of "scams" and keep those credit cards a little looser?

I am not mentally sick but "charged $197 for the opportunity to become a “certified” rebate processor, earning as much as $225 per hour" now that is just plain fucking funny. People actually sign up for that stuff.. hahahhaha

I love the john Beck stuff though.. nothing gets me going than an informercial producing money mak.. ahem** whats the fancy wickedfire name for this.. oh sry Biz ops . I love those informercials.

In my opinion if they do away with this then the feds also need to do away with every other scheme almost every major retailer uses to make you think you are getting a lot more than you paid for. Even the man Billy Mays pushed products that were scammy as they hooked you in with the first item then right when you are paying you have to pay $50 for shipping and handling. If you are going to regulate one thing you have to regulate them all. With those books it is like any other, some have good info and others suck thats why you read legit reviews.

I want to see an example of this. You are trashing billys good name for no reason. It's widely known that Billy and his people were some of the pioneers who put a stop to this practice and brought some honesty to the industry. Back up your claims.

I think he wasn't so much taking a shot at Billy, rather a shot at infomercials in general and Billy was just popular enough to enter into his mind at the time of writing. In any case...*stops to read more of the article*

OMG!!!! I was JUST THINKING TO MYSELF "If this is the case I wonder when the Feds are going to catch Jeff Paul's ass for his shortcut to internet millions infomercial" and then i read....

he defendants marketed “John Beck’s Free & Clear Real Estate System,” “John Alexander’s Real Estate Riches in 14 Days,” and “Jeff Paul’s Shortcuts to Internet Millions.” The defendants allegedly made false and unsubstantiated claims about potential earnings for users of these systems. They used frequently aired infomercials to sell the systems for $39.95 and then contacted the purchasers via telemarketing to offer “personal coaching services,” which cost several thousand dollars and purportedly would enhance their ability to earn money quickly and easily using the systems.

LOL!!! Damn..poor Jeff, but if this is the case...why did I see his infomercial on TV last night? (seriously). *point to ponder*

Sure makes us look like saints doesn't it? Maybe further down the line they'll out all their friends, and resources such as wickedfire as a plea bargain. You all wouldn't be laughing when you get dragged into that mess. Don't shit where you eat. Stop trying to become a one week rich kid.

Oh, wait, only the federal government is allowed to run a scam...i.e. the illegal tax system....quit competing with the government!
