I know there's a semi-official facebook thread, but it's 90 pages long and isn't exactly targeted toward my question.

Are the people promoting on facebook using keywords or is it mostly just demographic targeting? Also, does anyone know how to paste in keywords into the box? I tried comma and new line delimited, but neither work.

No, marketers do not utilize the tools and options available to them that would help them reach a targeted audience. Not at all.

Next time post in the other thread if your questions are full of captain obvious + deal with the very hard task of copy and paste

Easy there tiger, the only reason I asked is because I've heard of some people not using them. I just wanted to see what the majority opinion was.

how about you fucking test and find out for yourself

"i heard some people are not using keywords" really dude? Next you are gonna say "I heard some people were using tracking software" and "I heard some people are using a landing page"

how you target is dependent on who you are trying to target

^^ moron.

that thread was created so that there isn't a new thread everytime some newb has an obvious question about how facebook works.

i vote ban all OPs of facebook threads outside of the official thread. and perma-ban for those who know of it's existence but choose to open a new thread anyway (cuz their question is so fucking important).

and next time you have a question, do this:

"I wonder if I should bid on keywords"

  1. bid on keywords
  2. check results
  3. bid on keywords again
  4. don't bid on keywords again

I've generated over $100,000.00+ in 1 month promoting campaigns via facebook, and did not use a single keyword. My CTR was through the roof.... I understand where your coming from, but what's with the hostility? We all had to start some where...

either people are getting more retarded or i'm getting smarter. I highly doubt the latter.

I use keywords (nowadays) only for certain CPL campaigns. I always prefer to target by demographics because keywords limit it so much. If it's not scalable, I'm not very interested in it.

I've found that keywords work amazingly well if you're selling physical product, or happen to be in a specific niche.
If you're selling Golf Clubs, sure, you'll get a lot more people interested and clicking if it's not targeted to people that like golf, and you'll probably make a few more sales.
If you're selling premium golf clubs, the general public that like the occasional game but aren't obsessive won't give a shit, and you'll be wasting your money.

I've had this happen to me, thinking I could scale up a premium product by being slightly less targeted, and I was wrong.

It works for some things, not for others.
Test it yourself.
