Are you using it? What are your thoughts on it?

If you're not a fan, what type of cart would you recommend?

There's a couple of decent ecommerce plugins for EE - Carththrob 2 and Brilliant Retail. Had a play with them but not used them commercially yet.

We rolled our own ecommerce plugin for EE earlier this year (weren't any decent alternatives at the time) and it wasn't too much effort. Site has done $2m+ in sales so far and has coped well with 1m+ uniques, so EE seems to have handled it all pretty well.

Alternatively if you're building an ecommerce based site, recommend looking at Magento community edition.

Yes magento would be a good choice. If you want complete flexibility and control over the users experience, content, and functionality of your online store. It's intuitive administration interface features powerful marketing tools, a catalog-management engine and is SEO optimized to give merchants the power to create sites that provide an unrivaled and rich online shopping experience for their customers, tailored to your unique business needs.
