If you’ve done business with Knownhost, please spill. I’m leaning towards them but have had it with the cliquey ass kissing and shills at Web Hosting Talk.

I’ve been with LiquidWeb since 2008 and although it’s been a good ride I’m pulling the plug.

I have a granddaddy VPS account which they’ve made clear they’ll no longer support. So I’ve been hanging onto it with an old version of CentOS, cPanel, WHM, etc.

The reason is price. Upgrading to a basic Storm VPS means going from a $40 plan to a $60 one.

I’m all for a premium service but when you’re charging nearly double of that of middle of the market hosts for similar specs, it’s gone too far for my tastes.

I moved my forums to Knownhost from JaguarPC. Never looked back.

No down time, far faster, and their SSD drives make me smile.

knownhost sucks. been there, didnt like it at all. - but im spekaign from position of having a few managed servers.
i can vouch for wiredtree and liquidweb.

I have a storm on demand server and although it is expensive the service matches the price in my book.

As far as Knownhost goes, I had a VPS with them a while back and I was less than pleased with their support. As they say, you don't know how good your host really is till something goes wrong. In KH's case they blew it big time.

I've been a hosting consumer for over 10 years and have been with everyone from Godaddy, Bluehost, Hostgator, and Liquid Web and everywhere in between.

I've now been with Liquid Web for about 3 years as a commercial client and a reseller, so I host 1000's of active domains most of which I do not own. I have a bunch of dedicated servers and while switching to another host MIGHT save some money. It is just not worth it.

60 second guaranteed support!

Support is no bullshit, some of them can walk you through a linux kernel make!

I know having good support won't get you ranked on Google or save you money but it certainty will save you a ton of headaches when the shit hits the fan and you REALLY need someone.

Not only that, but they will attempt to answer questions that are "outside of your service agreement." I've had them help me with SQL issues, domain resolution, mail aliases, and tons of other general linux administration issues.

Zero downtime, ever... and the people really care.

Not just that, but their equipment is constantly being upgraded and is NEW.

No kidding. I had them open a ticket *with me* when I made some changes because they wanted to know if everything was ok and would I like some help?

My only issue with their setup is that you kind of have to do somethings their way. For example their monitoring only supports ssh on port 22. Since forever I have always changed the default port so that just sorts of rubs me the wrong way. But really I am working hard to find a complaint :)

I can also vouch for LiquidWeb. 3 dedicated servers, 5+ years, maybe 5 hours downtime total. Tech support is fantastic - I'm talking to a real person under 30 seconds 95% of the time I call.

I'm 100% happy with Knownhost. Their fully managed support is da bomb. I've pushed a few other people in that direction as well, as a testament to my happiness. I'm rocking out a VPS-2 at the moment with them and loving every minute.
