is it possible that enemies can link my sites to porn sites etc and get me de indexed for my sites out of spite? If this is so why dont businesses do this to their competitors. I wouldn't do this but surely there must be a way to prevent this but what is it.

Yes, some people do engage in negative SEO. How to prevent it? Hope that Google changes/updates its algorithm to account for this.

There is always talk about this, but most of it is just hot air. Some
people love the good guys vs bad guys drama.

The reality is that being deindexed by someone else dropping links
is not at all proven although thousands have been trying for years.
