I have a chance to register a 3-word .com EMD (with hyphens) for a keyword with 5.5k exact match per month... I'm assuming that's worth pursuing, thoughts?

Oh - right. If your reason for registering is because of the EMD then I would skip it unless the EPC is very high. Find a EMD with no hyphens there are a million + available. If you really like this niche - then take it.

What does Google show for CPC? Try to find a domain with exact match + additive word either before or after the keyword. Some people just add 1 or 247 or 365 in the end of their domain.
