E-Mail Opt In Popup Only to Collect E-Mails (No Mailing Service Yet)

I want to have an e-mail signup for visitors of my site where I'll send them mail every day, but I don't want to set up the service yet. Is there an easy solution to collecting the e-mails they enter, but not sending them anything, just to get a feel for potentially how well the email signup is working?

Some options I was thinking:
I am a novice with PHP. I might be able to code something if necessary.
Using MailChimp to gather the e-mails. I'm pretty sure you can export them (I forget I haven't used it for a few months)

Anyone know if there is any simpler solution?

I used phplista and constantcontact

Phplist is a free solution while constant contact a paid ( better one )

If all you want to do is collect emails you can easily do this with php. Just create a form and insert the $_POST data into your database. Requires a bit of custom work on your end but the scripts are very simple.

If your running wordpress just look for the free plugin that ads a form and copy the form logic into a popup window.

Why not just use mailchimp? It's free to start.
