A question for the experts:

I read somewhere that even if I buy a dropped domain that is no longer indexed for quite sometime, if I make it come back to life by building a new website for it, than its indexing and past PR will come back after a short time.

Is that true? And if not, what is the exact truth in this case?

Thanks in advance!

Generally it's true.

Indexing depends on whether the domain was banned before drop. You should research in archive.org what was there, and in ahrefs - what kind of backlinks it has. If there is no viagra or any kind of shit, all the odds are the domain is clean and the new site will be indexed quick.

PR may be restored with the next update or even immediately, but may not. It's a lottery. But good chances are it will.

hi Golan, thanks for your reply.

How can I find in archive.org if the domain was banned? also, should i try to copy the older version including deeper urls, or I can do whatever I like to it?

Thanks

You can't find a ban info there but you may see if there was bad content in any time point.

Yes if you can keep the permalink structure of the old site it's excellent, however in my experience the new site is being indexed instantly even with totally new urls.

Google completes reconsideration request pretty quickly, within 1-2 days in my experience. Just build a new site, or rebuild the old one. If there's a manual penalty they remove it. If there's not a manual penalty they tell you.

Just be aware that any content and graphics from the old site fall under copyright laws. The previous owner/company can come after you with a cease and desist letter.

If you are using this domain for a PR network I would just re-write the material or put up a similar topic.

Definitely 301 any indexed URLs. If you are using Wordpress, I just use a basic 301 redirect plugin like this.
