My advice is to not do what I did: don't buy a lot of domains until you figure out some niches where you can buy cheap or at reg free and flip the domains quickly or for decent $$$.
Painful letting the crap expire, and it tends to reduce the profit.

You need to figure out the business model, SLOWLY. Buy a few (the cost is cheap depending on your model - hand regs versus reselling) and see what you can do. REPEAT. Make sure you can repeat what you did and scale it. Once you're fairly confident then scale. Don't buy a ton and then try and figure out what to do.
it's hard to get a consistent stream of revenue. might as well get a few domain names and develop it into a mini-site for your marketing campaigns.

Although that's not a bad idea, you've got domaining wrong. You don't wait to make money, you've got to consistently go out there and find prospects. If you expect to just get offers, then yea, that's not going to work too well.
Like everyone else has said, start small then scale it up..
