Domain Scam?

Bought a few domain names at the weekend and received an email today asking if I was selling one of them and do I have any similar domain names for sale.

Replied with three similar domain names and made it clear for serious offers only.

The offer came back as USD **,*** for all three.

Talk about lucky or what!

Maybe not?

As long as I can provide a Manual Domain Appraisal certificate for evidence of the value of the domain name from a supplier they recognise?????

Do I spend 50 x 5 bucks to find the domain is worthless with being for a new niche?

Is the email a temptation to get me to use one of their services as part of a referral set up for the e mailer? (good idea)

Whys doesn't the buyer want to pay for the manual appraisal themselves if the domains are worth **,*** USD?

Has anyone else received similar emails recently?

Scam?

Thanks for your help.

Yep, Scam sorry to waste your time.

Elite Web Investing Solutions LLC - Scam letters
FRIDAY, 21 MAY 2010 15:42 WRITTEN BY GREG ROGERS
A number of businesses and individuals who list domain names for sale with Sedo.com receive unsolicited scam emails. A business known as Elite Web Investing Solutions LLC using various author names such as goncalves@elitenethosting.com peruse the Sedo.com domain for sale listings. Elite web hosting then sends spam emails to owners of the domain names expressing a desire to buy the domain without using the services of Sedo.com. It seems that the people behind this email scam obtain owner names and contact detials from whois records as private whois users are not targeted by Elite.

When the unknowing domain owner responds to the Elite Web Hosting phishing email a price is negotiated and the domain owner is asked to provide a "domain name valuation" from entities controlled by or associated with Elite Web Hosting. We can find no reference to any Sedo customer ever actually selling a domain to Elite Web Hosting... just people who have paid out money in the hope that they are genuine buyers.

Sedo.com is not connected to Elite Web Hosting and or EliteNetHosting or Elite Investment Group and is a victim of the scam as it is Sedo customers who are targeted.

Here is the bait email sent to Sedo customers. BEWARE

If in doubt, then yes it's a scam.

The way to disprove this is to agree to sell and get them to deposit funds with the escrow service of YOUR choice - fees paid by them etc. After that, well, job done :)

This is a well known scam to get you to pay for appraisals at an appraisal company they own.

Once you get the appraisal, they will never buy your domains.

Not sure why they always offer such unrealistic prices, I guess they prey off people's greed, but most people with a brain like you can smell a rat.
