I am new to this but am interested in buying some domains partly to have some options for sites to build and partly as an investment. When you buy a doman through yahoo domains or godaddy do you actually own the domain for that time period? Do you own the rights to sell it? Its all a bit confusing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, you own the resale rights on a domain. Renewal fees then become the issue of the new owner.
Asking about it here will probably get you laughed at, because for some reason, domaining isn't considered a valid business here.

I hear ya, appreciate the response. Honestly I'll spend company money on anything, including this, before I pay lots of taxes. i dont reall look at it like a get rich sceheme, just a way to get more saturated in what I think is a growing and profitable industry.
