Hey guys, I just got a call from a pretty big lawfirm (several mill a year), one of my friends referred them to me because they're looking for someone to do their ppc and manage their web prescence.

Although I am pretty good at ppc, I've never managed someone else's account, just wanted to see if you guys had some advice, maybe I can get some ideas before here before I call them back.

Some of the things I'm wondering are:
- how much should I charge them (i know they have a guy charging them 2k per month right now but he's prolly getting them bs results)
- if I get them particularly good results, should I get some sort of percentage of profits or should I work it by increase of percentages (if i increase their current online presence by 50% then I X amount per month).

That's just a couple of things I'm wondering but I'm sure more stuff will come up, if someone has had previous experience with something like this then any comments/suggestions would be much appreciated

Before I entered this wonderful space, I worked for a firm that didn't know the first thing about SEO/PPC. Our CEO was firm that he didn't want to exceed the monthly $5k budget for TOTAL advertising, though that figure would vary by media platform (traditional vs. online) and firm. Either way, we sat down and had meetings with a number of potential clients, and we settled on the one that was the most transparent about methods and most willing to share how his company produced the results we saw. The initial fee was $2500, and he charged $2k/month moving forward (same as your friend with the 'BS results,' go figure) but pushed us up to number one in SEO (we were a Washington D.C. Market Research Firm, since purchased). For AdWords and AdSense, we paid him out of pocket for all costs/expenses, and bonused him on clients we received as a result of his efforts (Flat fee = $1k/client, which we found a bargain because our minimum contract was $10k).

Hope this helps, but remember to keep the business owner's best interest in mind as well, and that transparency & communciation is the key to a good relationship.

Are they spending several mil a year on PPC or are they generating a few mil a year? Big law firms generate hundreds of millions in fees.

I almost always charge a percentage. Make it high if you want to.

Easier to bill and you dont have to ask for, wait for, or look up web stats and phone call conversions.

How can the person managing your ad campaigns have some sort of security in that situation where they can be guaranteed that your not lying to them about the number of clients you've generated through ppc?

Does anyone else have any suggestions who've managed ppc campaigns in the past and have been able to do this, without just billing on a percentage basis?

If you're an employee somewhere, have you ever been asked to start/run a ppc campaign within your own company? How do you go about asking for extra payment in that case. I'm tempted to just flat out say that people get paid to do this and I want extra pay on top of my salary to take on this extra work. Or should I just quit my job, then hire myself back to the firm as an independent contractor to do their ppc stuff?

Make a little graph

Sales before I did the ppc / Sales after I did ppc
-This should be some stellar sky rocketing line, if its not adjust scale. duh.

And next to that graph put
Salaray before / Salary Still

And then tell them to fuck off and run buck wild.

What you can do is set up your own offer. Basically make a landing page about the law firm with a form on it to collect data. Now since this is a local type business chances are very high that the prospects will want to call the lawyer. If you just through up their phone number you would lose control over the situation because you wouldnt be able to track how many phone calls they are getting.

Here is what you do. Do a search for "Tracking 800#s" - Buy one, which is very very cheap online. Problem solved. This 800# redirects to your clients phone line and you can:

#1 - Get a report of how many calls they received
#2 - Actually listen to the calls

This allows you to charge on a per lead basis if you wanted. I use tracking local numbers and tracking 800#s all the time and it works great.
