I'm attempting some adbritage or whatever it is called. I created a small site where I review all the hosts i've been with and include their affiliate links through CJ (if the review is favorable), then will use PPC to drive traffic to it. The URL is http://hosting.bakemedia.net/ Do you think this will work? Any suggestions?

There are loads of typos/grammatical errors throughout the content. That throws the credibility of the site right out the window. The site feels bleak and thus hard to look at. Bring some color into it.

As far as the arbitrage part of things go... Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the web hosting business a pretty expensive arena per click?

I must say you have picked a highly competitive market.

First of all you need to address your content. The content on your site is a reflection of your professionalism and know how. Thus, with many errors in your content is reflects poorly on the two aforementioned items.

Secondly you need to add some design to your site. It looks horribly organized and not very well marketed. For starters get some eye candy on their. Break up some of that text. I go to your site and feel overwhelmed like I am reading a page of websters dictonary. Also, add a header to add some professonialism. For example get some images from the hosting companies. Then it will look more like a great source of information.

Third, you need to intergrate your ad's better in the text. Right now it is pretty obtrusive in your webpage. I would put it closer to headers and titles to draw a better CTR's.

So do you think this is a lost cause or could I make some money on it? Doesn't have to be a huge profit, just a profit.

First test it if you want - dont take my word for anything

Here is how you can figure it out

1) What is HostGator or any affiliate going to pay you?

2) Use CJ's EPC as an indicator for what it will approx cost you per click to break even - EPC/100 give you that.

3) Figure out what profit margin you are comfortable with. Remembering that you will need to build in about 15-20% for fraud

4) Load up your keyword list and test. Set Daily Spending rates and keep notes as to what you did.

- If you have not read these articles I recommend them

1. http://www.shoemoney.com/2006/04/08/the-1000000-experiment-with-ppc-part-1/

2. http://www.shoemoney.com/2006/04/08/the-1000000-experiment-with-ppc-part-2/

From a brief look it seems that you would be looking at about a 20-25% profit after the fraud %. So spend $100 make $120-125. This is looking at the main term "web hosting".

On the other hand I would be more likely click off your site because their is nothing there that would catch my eye in a few seconds.

I've tried this with advertising networks before and failed miserably, rarely do any of the clickthroughs even on highly targeted keywords actually convert.

The best way to do it is:

- perform some amazing SEO feats

- get a professional design, images are crucial, pay someone if you need to. There are lots of young designers out there willing to do great work for cheap, or outsource even.

- have high-quality (0% typos, misspellings, grammar errors, etc.) writing. Get others to proofread the stuff or rewrite them for you if necessary.

- write articles that are entirely unique, the same old I love this hosting network, it's really great, join to make me some money won't cut it -- not saying that this is what you wrote because I didn't read much of it.

- be honest in your articles, lying to try and get more sign ups absolutely will not work, especially if you want lasting referral income, but I suppose in your case it doesn't matter as much because you get a set price where as I get set percentages.

- submit your articles that you spend real time perfecting and are genuinely interesting and helpful to popular sites like: digg.com, fark.com, stumble upon, etc. These articles may not be reviews of web hosts themselves, but have them related to the subject of hosting. How-To guides get great traffic on their own, anything useful and free is gold. Tie in your host reviews with these articles somehow.

- get a domain, sub-domains are hideously untrustworthy and just plain unprofessional.

Don't bother paying for text links to your site, if you do what I said above you won't need to. It's a waste of money frankly. The traffic may start extremely slow but it will grow and eventually you'll start seeing REAL results. I hope that helps.

P.S. Jon it's weird that your signature doesn't show in your pre-signature-creation posts.
