Do you feel like you're doing something "useful"?

So I've been thinking about this for a long time...

Don't get me wrong, I love what I do, I love the idea of having no boss, of making good money, of being able to work from anywhere and the fact that I can pack my bags right fucking now and head to the airport and choose a random destination. BUT, I realized something that is bothering more and more the older I get (I'm 30 now): at the end of the day, I will NEVER have the same satisfaction as a Doctor, a Teacher or a Firefighter will have.

Do you?

Are we doing something useful for mankind, or are we just making rich companies richer? (Thru AM, SEO, etc...)

Set it up so that you have your money makers, and you also have more satisfying 'side projects' that aren't as profitable, but are more fulfilling.
 
I believe I am doing something useful, it all depends on whether you're building a real company or just throwing shit everywhere
 
I help people in society in so many ways:

I make them happy by giving them ringtones from their favorite musical artists.
I make them happy by helping them have whiter teeth.
I make them happy by helping them lose weight with special berries and colon cleansers.
I make them happy by helping them meet their soulmates on a website.
I make them happy by helping them get bigger erections with a special pill.
I make them happy by helping them get free iPads.
I make them happy by helping make their boobs larger with special cream.

Now that I think of it, I'm practically a saint!
 
My take on it is that once I have enough money from IM to live comfortably, I would donate my time and skills to a cause or charity I really believe in.... SEO / PPC their sites, get them more exposure through social media, shit like that.

To each his own.

do you think there's a point to humanity existing on a tiny dot in the universe? i don't, so i don't think there's anything valiant about helping people who are living a pointless existence.
 
Honestly, I feel people like us know how the world works much better than the rest. We don't see websites, we see ad placement. We don't see ads, we see opportunity.

And not a single fuck was given that day.
 
You're moving money so you feed the economic system. Without sales there is nothing.

You could always be a volunteer firefighter if you live near a fairly rural area.

This is so true. Humans never needed civilization, shit we made it fine running around half naked chanting. Modern society is about giving people shit they don't need. That or making people want shit they don't need.
 
Everybody has a different intrepretration of "usefulness", the way I look at it if somebody is willing to pay you for what you do without feeling ripped off then you're doing something right.
