Okay probably something asked a million times before but i cant find it so... I bought a pre-owned domain as a test for my first proper affiliate site and start to build content and links for it. Went with old domain primaryily to avoid the sandbox. So as im getting links the site starts to rise in the serps, usually jumping up a load of places before going down but would still be on second page. This goes on for few weeks till i hit the #7 spot for my keyword.
So im starting to feel pretty impressed with myself and thinking this seo stuff actually quite easy and then bam i dissapear from the rankings, not even in the top 100. So im wondering if this is a natural thing when climbing the rankings for a new keyword? Can old sites be sandboxed too, ie if you build links to quickly? Some of my links were from questionable sites ie directorys. I dont think the keyword im going for would be high enough to warrant a manual review, only gets 80-100 searches a day.
I still rank for the name of the site so im assuming im not banned?
