Directories 101

Ok I have read a lot about some of you all having directories. Are they worth your time. I think I have a niche for two directories.

1. What directory software is out there? Any you all would recommend or affiliates for?

2. Once the initial setup do the directorues run themselves? I know there will be leg work to sell the ads and market the site but I am talking about the site itself.

Any tips for a newbie at directories? I am thinking of getting a book or two any that you all would rcommend?

do a google search for "php directory script" there are shedloads .. i think phpdirectory is one of the best but each to their own

learn php and cut out the middleman

There are scripts that can allow you to automatically approve sites. But to maintain seo-friendliness of directories, other owners prefer human/manual edit.
