Ok, so I'd count this as a newbie question. I've heard a lot, but never seen a direct answer on the subject. I know about Google QS, etc, but here goes:

If I own a domain name and use that as my Display URL, and it redirects to the offer's actual page, is this type of direct linking allowed on AdWords? The offers I'm promoting have amazing landing pages already so I figured adding an intermediary might turn people off.

Thanks everyone.

It might work depending on your implementation, but no, it isn't allowed as far as I know. Only one person can advertise for a given (same) landing page on Google last I heard.

That said, it doesn't matter if its allowed or not really if you get away with it. Especially on adwords.

Well, I don't really want to get banned of course. I've seen some on google that use the stock landing page for certain offers (and are page 1 ads on top competitive keywords), but it goes through their real domain first, then tracking, then to the product landing page.

Edit: Well, if this would lead to a ban or a slap.

I guess I should be a little more clear-

I own ProductXYZ.com

Display URL: ProductXYZ.com

Destination URL: ProductXYZ.com

However, productXYZ.com redirects to my tracking, then to the actual offer landing page. If this is legit.

The general rule is that the display URL has to match the URL where the person who clicked your ad eventually lands and remains to view/read the landing page.

Ouch. Then I see it goes to their affiliate auction, that kind of blows. Anyone have any stories about that?

You can use an iframe-based landing page, so that the URL in the browser is yours, but the page displayed is the offer's. It meets Google's requirements and, in my experience at least, doesn't get banned.

The problem I've had doing that is quality score. Usually the offer's page gets slapped with a QS of 3 or so and the CPC goes infeasible. My landing pages aren't for customers, they're for the Googlebot.

Many networks make it so that you do not get credited with leads when an offer is in an iframe. So I'd ask your AM first before using an iframe.

Damn, looks like I gotta create my own landing page. I didn't know this.....

I'm not sure if you were being sarcastic or not; it's not that I have a problem making a landing page, I just didn't want to have to do it because I thought an intermediary page would lower the chances of people actually buying the product, at least via Google.

No lol I actually am starting to create a landing page now.

I read some stuff last night and your actually better off creating your own landing pages because they convert better and you can presell the product.

Presell landing pages will generally lead to better conversions and more money. A lot of offer pages are not heavy on the presell and just jump straight to the 'sell'. Makes sense since that's what they're supposed to do: sell the product.

As a marketer, think about AIDA when creating your campaign / landing page.

  • Attention : get people's attention. Think of your ad copy for this step
  • Interest: you need to create an interest in the product. Laning page.
  • Desire: the presell text on your landing page. Make people WANT it. Talk about how it fills a need they have.
  • Action: they buy. Figure this is the clickthrough and conversion from your lander to the offer
It's a rarity nowadays to get better conversions with direct linking. Also, Google likes landing pages as long as you include other pages to make it a landing "site". Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, and Contact are the three other pages you should include at minimum. I like to also add a page with more information about the product(s) and also a links page with links to Wikipedia and other authority sites.

Would you recommend a separate domain for the landing page as well?

like if I'm selling ProductX and they have ProductX.com and I make RelatedProductX.com ?

If you're hosting your own landing page, then yes, you'll have a separate domain. Other than porn sponsors, I don't know of any that will host your lander for you.

As for the name: get 3 or 4 different names. You may find that "BuyProducx.com" doesn't convert as well as something else that doesn't even have the product name in it.

Like Diorex says "Testing is for the rich"
