What is your preferred language, and why?

I currently use PHP, primarily because it is free and easily accessible with mysql (also free). I picked it up rather easily as well being object oriented.

Recently though Ive had the desire to start working with java and .net/asp. Java largely just because Id like to learn it, and itd be most helpful to me professionally. .net/asp for the same reasons.

Css, along with html. I'm starting really to understand it's full potential now. Like the demo site from csszengarden. It actaully is that simple.
It's not always simple though, depending on the layout.

In some cases it just seems impossible to make some designs work in ie6 and 5 until you stumble onto some nasty hack that fixes it.

Django? I had never heard of that actually. Ill look into it though, thanks for the idea :)

Im actually looking to do something with Java in the near future. Id love to implement some c++ as well, but its a matter of time at this point. I really dont have the time to play with all the web based technologies I would like to.

Definitely Perl.
I can program in PHP and VB.NET but Perl wins hands down.

What makes perl stand out for you? Most people I've heard that do use it love it, but is there a particular reason why? I've heard its tops for things like regular expressions and such, but any other reasons, or just a personal preference.

I guess it's mostly personal preference as I learned it before PHP. I do love the ease of regular expressions in Perl. I guess I find it more streamlined - I can do more in a line of code, and there are less unnecessarily elements. When I had to learn ColdFusion for a government contract I had, it just about killed me - talk about unnecessarily elements - more tags than code or content.
