I recently picked up a few 8-10 year old domains for a good price. They are decent domains that I plan on developing sites on.

I've read posts in the past about people having great success as far as ranking goes when adding new pages to these old domains.

Is there are a huge advantage of using such old names or is it really not that big of a deal?

The ones I bought have never been developed before or only had a couple of pages on them in the past, if that makes a difference.

I developed a forum on an 8 year old domain, parked since registration. Now #1 in google for trucker forum, beating out a forum with 10,000s members. Created it a year ago, now #1, but i was in the top ten rather quick.

Shouldn't matter much anymore. The SE's understand that domain sales are now part of the process, so the gains are probably minimal at best.

Anyways, go build some shit and if you notice they take off quicker than you expect, post it up to confirm the myth.
