WTF?????

Just when I thought I had seen all the stupidity I was going to see today.

A meeting of 21 scientists in Parma, Italy, concluded that reduced water content in the body was a symptom of dehydration and not something that drinking water could subsequently control.
Now the EFSA verdict has been turned into an EU directive which was issued on Wednesday.

EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration

You gotta stop reading the tabloids, man!

Otherwise I'll see your dehydration article and raise you one elvis-on-a-UFO sighting...

“Then they make this judgment law and make it clear that if anybody dares sell water claiming that it is effective against dehydration they could get into serious legal bother.

so next time if someone is suffering from dehydration and if a person gives him water saying it is effective against dehydration, that person will go to jail for many years and will die of dehydration.

The telegraph is actually one of the most reliable UK sources I've seen posted on WF in months lol.

Although further research shows:

So what about the actual claim? Well you can read the EU's ruling here (PDF), and the first thing to note is that this isn't really a rule so much as a piece of advice, which member states are free to interpret as they wish. The Express finally admit this in the very last line of their hysteria, when they eventually allow an EU spokesperson to get a line in edgeways: "This is a specific case with specific characteristics. Either way the final decision is for member states."

And to quote the bottom of the Telegraph article, as to why they made that guidance:

Prof Brian Ratcliffe, spokesman for the Nutrition Society, said dehydration was usually caused by a clinical condition and that one could remain adequately hydrated without drinking water.
He said: “The EU is saying that this does not reduce the risk of dehydration and that is correct.
“This claim is trying to imply that there is something special about bottled water which is not a reasonable claim.”

"Rules banning bent bananas and curved cucumbers were scrapped in 2008 after causing international ridicule." Lol wtf???

Pizza is a vegetable, and water doesn't stop dehydration. Wonderful.

The really funny part if the pizza one is that they have come to that conclusion because of the tomato sauce and technically tomatoes are a fruit. I know we all think of them as veggies but for some reason it just cracks me up.
