Personally I think you would be crazy to build a CMS from scractch because you can do so much so fast using the free tools around. Yet I know many programmers who like to create their own CMS, or people who pay to get a custom CMS written.

How do you develop new sites?

Used to use open source, but trust me, building your own CMS is just so much better. My own cms for wiigamin.com works perfectly for me, is a lot more efficient, and i can make changes as i please.

Open source all the way, There are like a dozen different pretty good opensource CMS free to use right away. I can't think of a reason to let one be custom made, or even make one yourself.
As a matter of fact new modules are created for these OS cms'es regularly since they tend to have a pretty big community around them.

Custom for me. Granted, you can get a faster start with an open source or paid CMS, but once you make your own, you can do a lot more. I know exactly what I need to tweak for what, and know how everything works so its a lot faster to fix errors.

like.. what?
The only thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to accept any video type and turn it into a flash video, does anyone know an open source solution that does this? (well)

I mean do a lot more in terms of customization. If i want to add a feature thats not in an open source CMS, itll take longer than adding it to my own CMS since I know how the code is.

I wont deny that an open source CMS will have a ton of features, but I dont need a lot of them. So I feel I have more control over the whole thing, and its not as bulky.
