It was really fun watching the forum launch thing weekend, but now its feels like I'm getting run over by a steamroller trying to keep up with the posts!

It'll slow down, especially once teh top 10 posters reach 500... if it continues to be this quick, maybe it would be a good idea to make one or two more sections/categories... make it easier to find stuff

If you notice, vinSVT already slowed down now that he hit 500, I predict the same for the others

It's definitely the contest. But although the post count is rising lightning-fast, I see a surprisingly low percentage of complete nonsense filler posts, as most are on topic and many are valuable.

All in all, a great success for Jon and this community.

A lot of the posting is due to the contests, but Jon has already stated he intends to run more contests, so we'll see if it goes in cycles according to contests.

I think the reason why you aren't seeing filler posts is because no one wants to risks losing the contest just because their posts were junk.

Exactly. So this whole contest thing turned out to be an ingenious idea (I've never seen a more demanding requirement nor a cooler prize) for kickstarting what would become an awesome forum.

At first I thought it was going too fast, but there are lots of good threads to keep the post level high

I've been suprised at the quality of threads and individual posts. It's certainly on par with other forums, but with a better concentration of great posts.

The funny thing is that fewer people are creating better posts and threads than the massive amount of members at other forums like, oh, I don't know, perhaps Sitepoint.
