I've been pulling my hair out for the last 4 hours removing a troublesome little virus from my wife's laptop.

It seems DHL was having some issues delivering a package and needed her help to resolve the issue. Which she did by opening their attached exe.

So 4 hours later and I think it's clean.

Question:
What's the best anti virus solution you guys recommend at the moment. It should have the ability to recognise a virus delivered via email. The client she uses is Thunderbird. Firewall not needed. Got hardware for that.

Before you start kicking me, yes she was using an anti virus product when the laptop got infected. Avast.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Eset Nod32's email scanning feature, backed up by its hey dumbass you don't need to open that feature.

Edit: In before Mac fanboy's

:p You know I'm a mac user right? (But would seem that the mac users with a higher/false sense of security due to no viruses/trojans, more easily fall prey to phishing scams due to overconfidence and lack of common sense.)

avira, never had a problem with it ( just sometimes it won't update because servers are overloaded )

the old UPS - DHL exe file has been around for several years...
You won't find any anti virus software as effective as few minutes spent teaching your wife some basic rules to avoid viruses

I guess the better answer would be "Why is the bitch on the computer and not in the kitchen?"

It's a bit ironic that the picture of the woman you put with that statement looks like she's about to lose it and her hand is inching towards the butcher knives.
