I'm trying to transfer some files directly from my desktop to my new laptop, so I plugged in an ethernet crossover cable into them, but no matter what I try I cannot get them to see eachother. That little windows help bubble appears and says the connection is weak and may not work properly. Is there anything special you have to do to get this working? They both are running XP home. I did the "Add Home Network" or whatever in my network places and all that, but they don't seem to see eachother.
edit: i followed all the instructions on this page, but when I run the wizard on my laptop (which i want to be the guest computer) the option for "Connect Directly To Another Computer" instead of "Accept Incoming connections" is grey-out (unselectable), which I don't know why, because my laptop needs to be the guest. It still doesn't work.
