Cloaking affiliate links question

I see all these posts about shady program owners stealing peoples landing pages / keywords. ( this is my understanding of arbitrage, correct me if I'm wrong please) My question is, the recommendation to prevent this from most members here is to cloak their affilaite urls. What exactly does that mean, I did the obvious google search but I'm not having a lot of luck.

Cloacking an affiliate link means you want to camouflage the actual url address of the affiliate link so that it is not obvious to others. For e.g if I was promoting an affiliate program and given the referral link to it, there is a way to clock it/ change the url so it appears to be coming from my own website rather than someone elses.

The best I've found in cloacking affiliate links is to redirect the urls. There should be an icon called 'redirects' in your Cpanel which allows you to do it and it's quite easy. What I did was I went to youtube and typed in 'how to redirect affiliate links' and check out the videos to understand this better.

This comp at work has barred access to youtube so I can't paste the link now.:crap: I will paste a link of a video later.
