My back has been bugging me for quite a while now, so I finally decided to go to a chiropractor and see if they could help. I have always been skeptical of chiropractics, but I though I'd give it a shot.

Honestly, when I met with the guy, I felt like I was talking to the same type of people who do palm readings, or taro cards. The questions he asked and things he implied or commented about would apply to 99% of the people out there.

Chiropractor comment: "You probably don't sleep real good, do you?"
My Answer: "Does anyone?"

Chiropractor comment: "Your back problem could be caused by a rib out of alignment, which could be caused by sneezing. Do you sneeze hard?"
My Answer: "You mean I'm going to have to come back every time I sneeze? Haha!"

End result....It's been 4 days since I went and my back is worse that it was before I went. They told me it may take 3-4 more times. I said, "what...3-4 more time until my back will be totally fucked?

Dude,
STAY AWAY - Chiropractors are Quacks. Of course you will have to keep going back. They need the REBILL BABY!! That's how they make their bread.

Seriously though, those guys are snake oil salesmen. My wife goes to one and she is always complaining a week later. Some people swear by it - but i personally think it's bullshit. Not to mention that if you get one that doesn't really know what they are doing, they can fuck you up....Google it.

Horror stories out there...im tellin ya.

I'd never been to a chiropractor until about 3 years ago, when i tweaked the shit out of it. My wife strongly recommended I go, since i was all crooked.

I didn't have any weird, mystic experience like you did, however. The guy i went to was pretty cool. The back-cracking and stretching was all good. I'd have to say that the greatest benefit is just learning about how to take care of your back in general. Different strengthening exercises, how not to move and lift things, when to ice and heat....stuff like that.

I actually haven't been to the chiro in about 9 or 10 months, because I can (for now) take care of my back on my own, even when it starts acting up.

Chiropractors are the real deal. The problem is 95% of them suck ass. It's hard to find a really good one. I've had ones make my back worse, while another makes it perfect in 2 visits.

I'd get a recommendation from a friend vs picking one out of the yellow pages.

You have to find the right chiropractor. Also, try out some vibram five fingers. They help with back problems.

I believe they're academically backed for dealing with back problems. The reason they get the "bullshit" stigma is cause a lot of them claim that they can cure ... the flu ... and shit.

this guy is a quack.

It's a medical branch based on science facts. I don't believe it's bullshit.

In your case however, I would also be concerned about chiropractors response if that's how really happened. I would seek more opinions. Ask around man.

Our spine is very important part of our body and once you fuck it up it's hard or impossible to heal.

Find a chiropractor that uses the activator method ( http://www.activator.com ) . It's a little device that they use to quickly and accurately realign the various bones instead of cracking, pulling, ect. It doesn't hurt at all.

If you've been out of alignment for a while your muscles want to fight it when your disks, joints, etc. have been put back into alignment.

Once you have a couple adjustments you feel great. No grinding when you turn your head, etc.

Chiropractors do tend to come off too much like used car salesman but find a good one that uses the activator method and you'll feel better.

I went to one once and I also got the impression that they just did the same thing for everyone. I would do a combination of massage and acupuncture if I were you. I've read a lot of studies that say people get great results from using acupuncture.

this guy is a quack.

You laugh, but I get a pain in my neck almost every day. If I put a hand to the side of my head and push my head into my hand, my sternum cracks and the pain goes away.

Chiropractors can be good, but as others have already pointed out, you need to find a good one. Weekly maintenance is the ultimate rebill, bit if you have a recurring agravating problem, having someone tend it it will keep it from flaring up. This is especially good if you have an insurance policy that covers such a thing. If not, not so much...

WTF has it right. Most Chiropractors are in for the insurance money but the good ones make a world of difference.

My Chiropractor has an open walk in during office hours, adjusts you without all the bs electrolysis and you are out the door in 5 minutes. Go once a week for $25 bucks and you stay great.

I would miss a week of work a year with a bad back and you did not want ot be behind me when I backed up my car before I started seeing this chiropractor. With the care I have I have not had a major problem in 5 years and have full mobility. It has been a differentiator in my life.

Spend the time to find the right Chiropractor and it can make a big difference, find an ambulance chaser and they will just suck money out of your pocket.

Chiropractors = ultimate rebill? compared to doctors prescribing pills? I'd also rather spend $25 to get an adjustment as opposed to surgery.

Bad ones.. yes there are. There are also a lot of good ones. I personally look for one that graduated from Palmer, which is arguably the best college out there. I also prefer the old crusty ones, compared to the young ones. It's a "feel" that they develop, and experience counts.

On that note, we had one local who lost his license for "tweaking" nipples.

Chiropractors work sometimes better then any other treatment out there. Give it a try at least.

Brandon -- If you would stop your gay man sport fucking hobby then you wouldn't have these back problems everytime you bend over.

dude, why would you go to something totally unscientific?

I mean, you could go to a doctor... you know... the kind that believes in science?

Chiropractors could work just as a shaman could... but I wouldn't know because I believe in science... and I go with professionals.

The day I try a Chiropractor will be the day science has failed me... and probably also shamans, as I am more likely to trust some guy tripping balls than some quack who is out to get my money.

hah. I know someone in Chiropractic school, (AFTER a 4 year Engineering Degree at MIT) and he said the work load is even harder.

my ex gf's dad was a chiropractor. he was also a "sufi healer" and lived in san francisco. quack.

Thats why Chiropractic works. It's basic fucking common sense. Disks, joints get out of whack, pinch nerves, cause muscle spasms which in turn pulls disks more out of alignment....Put everything back in place and shit works the way it was intended.

Your car never gets out of alignment? Never need to fill the tires and rebalance? What happens if you don't? Shit starts to rattle apart.

I'm not against traditional doctors nor drugs but if I can simply fix the root of the problem rather than pop pills and other chemicals I'll do it.
