Checking if an unregged domain has been regged before

Does anyone know of a service/site that does this?

Right now I'm scraping a whois type site to check if a domain has been regged before, which works but isnt 100%. Archive.org less so.

Maybe you know of other kinds of sites that give this info?

I need to automate it to use in my spam domain tool.

A similar question came up recently and the answer was domainIQ - Comprehensive domain name intelligence.

For example, I just entered a domain I previously owned, but which isn't registered now, and it shows:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.COM appears to be available.

We have 3 historical whois records for this domain going back to 2009-09-24.

This domain expired 1 time on 2014-04-12.
