So when you are checking out the competition in a niche and searching the engines for the keywords you plan on targeting, how many pages do you go back to look for them? 5? 10? 15?

I think you should find which page you're located in and go one and a half or two pages ahead (15-20 listings ahead of you).

An easy way to get links is by finding out where your highest competitor is listed at, find their backlinks using:
http://seologs.com/link-analysis-tool/backlinks.html

You can then use the WHOIS data and see if you can contact the owner and buy a text link on their site. This is a lot of work and you will definitely need a good budget (around $5-$10)...

I just did it for a client of mine and it took me a few days or so, but well worth it because a few weeks later he was a little bit above his competition (I had to make sure not to get too many links too fast..)

Thanks for the response Sixty6. What would happen if you get to many links to fast? Or were you getting paid by the hour. ;)
