It's been years since I looked around for a chat application. Last time I decided against Java based chats because they bogged down my site too much and I set up a simple html refresh chat.
Now I'm looking at having a chat window on the screen while the user is using my site so they can chat with the other active users. Has anyone done this or do you have any chat technology to share? I'm not looking for a freebie script. I'd rather program itmyself or purchase it. Something along the lines of when you are playing a game on a site and you can chat with the other players. Are these still always using Java?
