I started using Champix to help me quit smoking. Its been three months since my last cigarette. I took my last Champix today and I am 100% off cigarettes. And I feel fucking amazing!

I quit a couple times with Zyban. The last time I quit (about 18 months ago) I did it cold turkey.

Just one cigarette will get you back smoking. You have to treat them like Kryptonite. You have to want not to smoke more than you want to smoke.

Stay strong, and good job.

Thanks. The best thing I found so far is food tastes amazing after two weeks of not smoking.

Food tastes amazing, you will continue to cough up some nasty stuff, your sinuses will clear, over time your breathing will become less labored and your sense of smell will improve.

It's when you get off the drugs that your mind starts to fuck with you.

  • It's ok to have one.
  • Just a drag.
  • I've been good, I can cheat a little bit.
  • This is a special occasion.
I have only been able to quit because I want it more than I want a cigarette. And even 18 months later, I still sometimes want a cigarette.

Champix really fucked with one of my friends that took it, after a couple weeks she had to stop. Did you have any side effects while taking it?

The only side effect I had was very strange dreams lol.

the first couple of years are the hardest, but it does get better. I used to smoke 1 1/2 packs a day. I loved to smoke. I enjoyed it.
but, finally I quit, and have been smoke free for 14 years (yeah, I'm gettin' old).
I stopped by gradually weaning myself off of them. Quitting cold turkey just made me an asshole to be around and only lasted 2 weeks tops. Finally I just said, ok, I'm going to smoke a pack a day for 3 days, than dropped down to 19 a day for 3 days, and every 3 days, I reduced it by 1. This gave my body a chance to slowly get used to lower amounts of nicotine without really noticing it. the last week or two were the hardest, but just replace smoking with gum chewing (sugar free gum). I chewed gum every waking hour for about the first 5 or 6 years, but I can't remember the last time I had a craving for a smoke. I can't stand the smell of them anymore.
Stick it out, you'll get past the cravings, and you'll feel 100% better

Congrats on your success! but..

I've done my research on this and this is exactly why I'm reluctant to try it.

Now I know most drugs have possible side effects but come on:

Contact your doctor if you experience these side effects and they are severe or bothersome. Your pharmacist may be able to advise you on managing side effects.

* abdominal pain
* appetite changes
* changes in taste
* constipation
* dizziness
* drowsiness
* dry mouth
* flatulence (passing gas)
* gingivitis
* headache
* heartburn
* nausea
* rash
* sleep disturbance (difficulty sleeping or abnormal dreams)
* unusual tiredness or weakness
* vomiting

Champix side effects prompt 818 complaints - The Globe and Mail

Health Canada has received more than 800 reports of side effects - including more than 500 reports of psychiatric problems - linked to the controversial smoking-cessation drug Champix in less than two years on the market.

But although evidence is growing that the medication is linked to aggression, depression and suicidal tendencies, some tobacco-control experts and non-profit groups in Canada still encourage its use, often without mention of the possibility of psychiatric problems.

---

If I'm going to become suicidal and aggressive I might as well quit cold turkey.

When it comes to prescription meds, that's not that long a list of side effects really. I had a post on here about Singulair awhile back and it's list of side effects is like a long novel, up to and including sudden death.

I had cramping in my extremities, the worst stomach pains, and terrible dreams.

That was some seriously fucked up shit.

Anyways, not to get too far off topic, congrats on quitting the smoking. Stay strong and good luck!

All the people I know who used prescriptions to quit smoking started again shortly after they stopped taking them so be careful, you're a lot more vulnerable now than you may think. It's not so much the cigarettes themselves, but the things you used to do when you were smoking the cigarettes that you have to be conscious of.

Yeah it fucked with my mum, got her all suicidal and depressed and shit, but fuck her anyway.

I tried all the shit, patches, gum, drugs etc.never worked. Smoked for 20 years and I quit cold turkey 7 months ago.

I would suck my dogs ass for a cig right now but I know I can't have one. I still crave everyday, even after 7 months. I suppose the desire to smoke never goes away.

The physical dependency should go away in 72 hours, thats about the time it takes Nicotine to leave your system completely. The rest is just a mind game. When you were a smoker you associated things with smoking. Get in the car and light up a cigarette? Now just the act of getting in a car will start the cravings. Basically you have to retrain your brain to not associate those things with smoking. When you get in the car do something else, like pop in a piece of gum. Your subconcious is a mother fucker to try and beat.

If anybody still has trouble quiting smoking. I used this a few years ago Quit Smoking|QuitKey basically you can only smoke when it "beeps" and slowly weans you down... Funny my dad used this 20 years ago too to quit.

I hate it when ppl say there is only one method to quit...Whether you do cold turkey, patch, gum, drugs whatever. Some ppl do it differently.

i quit cold turkey 5 years ago after smoking for 11 years (since 13). *pats own back*

did smoke some weed to curb the cravings though...

Congrats!!
Champix, neverheard of it. But i heard about Chantix, must be the same stuff. Looking to give one of those a try.

Chantix is very nasty - I know a few people who took it and had severe depression, they described their mood as a total change and they couldnt quite describe it, but they got off it right away.

I myself am slated to try to quit again this week. And you're right, the hardest parts for me are getting into a car, having a drink, right after dinner or a meal, when a smoke is something I actually look forward to halfway into the meal (because a smoke after a meal is one of the best cigarettes of the day).

I find affiliate marketing makes smoking a serious challenge to quit. I constantly light up throughout the day as fires spring up, etc. I've quit 2-3 times before but my wife is a smoker, and we often quit at the same time, but one of us caves in eventually, and once one does, forget it, it's all over.

This time, I've decided enough is enough, gonna give it a serious effort and stick to it. I'm gonna be a grumpy ass sonofabitch, so apologies in advance if I call anybody a fucktard who didnt deserve it.
