I was sent an email today telling me to stop advertising on a certain keyword for search.

Basically it says they are the trademark vendor for the brand name I am bidding on and want me to stop advertising on that brand name.

The email they sent did not say it was a cease and desist but I am just wondering if I should ignore their request and let it go that far or if this is the cease and desist without them actually telling me that it is... I do not want to get sued.

The email was from a company called:

Compliance Team | Vantage Media, LLC
2101 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 2000 | El Segundo, CA | 90245
d. 310.219.6200 | f. 310.640.9960

It's not on Google. Besides the email didn't come from google it came from Vantage Media.

"On behalf of *****, Vantage Media is requesting the immediate removal of your listing. If there are any questions, concerns, or discrepancies, please let us know."

I bet you its another ppc marketer I always respond with something crazy and foreign-ish and they'll usually give up because they can't do anything since "i'm outside the US". Here, have one of my templates:

Hey friend, these rules not apply in Russia. Sorry to say for your inconvenience on this policy you want enforcement on but that law is not in existence here but if you like send your spouse. I shall tickle the titty with these testicles.

"requesting" does not seem like strong enough language. They have to provide a cease and desist before hauling off and filing a lawsuit. or else it would be a waste of time... Perhaps you write back and say "everything has a price :) "

That template is priceless.

just write

"Dear Friend

I feel no good for use of trademark. I can give you 25 articles for no charge.

Good Luck Bro
"

I've had quite a few of these in the past, are you using dynamic insertion? Obv. they'd have a problem with that due to misleading the consumer.

If they don't want people bidding on the keyword they need to email Google and request their trademark be protected.

i got the same email from the same people. deleted it. in about 4 weeks their claim is null and void anyway...

That template is gold.
Respond with a "postmaster error - recipient rejected" type of email and sit pretty :). If they are serious, they will send you a physical letter.

Inside your affiliate account it should tell you any specific rules for Search (e.g. trademark names, what you can or can't say). If you're not violating any rules, screw 'em. Who are they to tell you what you can or can't do? As long as the company that contacted you isn't a partner of the Advertiser (which you should confirm, you don't want the Advertiser to refuse to pay or bitch to your AM), I wouldn't worry about. Use the hilarious template provided above.
