Anyone have any experience registering .CA domains outside of Canada?

This makes it seem like starting a Canadian Corporation might be the way to go. This is just for a test and I dont want to drop a few grand hiring lawyers etc just for a test.

Anyone know of a way to get these registered without hassles?

i got a few from drop catchers. Its a little more complicated, but you dont need to be a canadian citizen. It was a while ago hen i did it, but i think you have to do it through [SIZE=-1]www.cira.ca , or at least register with them.

I've registered a few .ca domains and haven't found a way around cira. It's mostly just a pain in ass to confirm everything with them. The most reliable and cheapest domain name broker I've been able to find is Netfirms at $9.95/year for .ca domains.

Guys! We have a poor little Hosting and Domains forum too.

As for your question, there isn't a way around either being 1) a Canadian citizen 2) having a corporation there for registering a .ca domain. Though there is speculation that it might be opening up soon, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Normally I would ask someone to register the domain for me. It's not very convenient but it's easier than having a Canadian corporation.

Very risky -- unless they are a registered agent or you have a written agreement with them. Especially true if you have a high value name.

I live in Canada so I have no problem registering .ca domains...I've heard of CIRA taking domains back without warning if you are not a Canadian citizen or have a legal Canadian "prescence". The .ca market overall is much smaller than .com so they are not worth as much either.

example: google.com gets 115 Million uniques/month but google.ca gets 1 Million uniques/month
