So pretend my niche is flat brimmed caps, and this random blog wrote a viral post about flat brimmed hats that went viral as hell, reached front page of reddit, got linked onto the huffington post and other authority domains, spread like wildfire through twitter, 150k likes on facebook, 20k pins on pinterest. The post gets 30k-70k unique viewers a month.

I email this blog owner and ask to pay for a link on the blog post, and they reply saying it would cost me $70 USD a month.

Should I buy the link?

Assuming that his site isn't tainted and begging for a penalty, ask him if you can run the link for 1 week to see if the traffic converts for your needs. Let him know that if it works out, you're more than willing to keep a monthly payment going as long as the traffic is flowing. Just make sure that you're watching that traffic like a hawk and have vetted his site to make sure it's not going to cause you issues with G.

Oh for sure the blog is clean as a whistle. But I will ask for the 1 week of trial, that's a great idea.

I say go for one month, if it converts, keep making the payment, if it does not cancel and look for another alternative.

If they have no hard terms like you have to sign up for so many months, just give it a one month try and see how it goes.

I can tell you social traffic can be un-predictable. Just because you have eyeballs on your content does not sometimes translate into $$. A lot of broke kids online and most are click happy. It might work for adsense thou.

Yes is obviously your answer

Main goal of a site is to create traffic whether its google, ads or facebook. For $70 a month for a link with that much exposure, I'd definitely hit it without second thoughts of posting it in the forums and just watch it daily
