If you are doing 5k products why are you using WP? Bloat, speed, ease of use for your customers, etc... all addressed better by other platforms like oscommerce, magento, etc....

Magento on the front, blog on the back - hell import your products into WP and redirect the links to their store page.

If you are looking for a good E-commerce solution, its better you opt for a solution which is built for it. A lot of E-commerce scripts are available , and Magento seems to be a good choice for that !

One of my past clients used this theme for his ecommerce site and it didn't come out to shabby but with 5k products it may look a bit cluttered but I am not positive due to the fact my client was very niche related and had about 10 products total.
I used shopperpress until I found that Wordpress does not export to other sites very well, like eBay and Google Product Search.
Now; at least for eCom, I use BigCommerce - It's great.
