Well I've created 3 web sites, and I've been promoting them with solid seo and link exchange sites. I've been displaying both affiliate and AdSense ads. In the three weeks since I started, I've gotten about 600 unique visitors (total), and have not made a single penny, lol. I know it doesn't happen over night. By 'it', I mean turn a profit, any profit.

Anyway, over the past couple of days, I've realised that I'm not really interested in the sites I've made (and apparently neither are my visitors), lol. There is a topic that I'm actually very interested in, and I've decided to make a blog where I can post my own thoughts and ideas on this topic, as I would genuinely like to share them, and get feedback from visitors. I was going to make this blog for pleasure without any advertising or money making aspect, but now I'm thinking why not.

So my question is.... What is the best way to profit from a blog: AdSense, Affiliate banners (cj.com), or something like blogtoprofit.com (for you spam watchers - I have no affiliation to this site). I would love to make even a bit of money, as eventually I want to be able to work full time doing something that I enjoy, ie. writing and creating sites on this topic, even though it is a nitch that doesn't lend itself to promoting many products or services.

Thanks in advance.

Start your blog get links and add content, I would throw a few YPN or Adsense ads up, but if the site is new I would be more worried about driving traffic and scoring links than making money.

Go make a google.

Thats how money is made

blogs? Leave that to Jon and Lee and Shoemoeny

meh

His blog might not be on the same topic as the above, there might be a need for what he wants to write about.

Getting started with a blog isn't always bad. If it gets enough traffic you can use it to get traffic to a related website in the future.

Start it up and add content on a regular basis. Don't worry about ads at first.

Get links and get into directories before you throw the ads on there. Depending on the topic, if you are adding good content, the traffic will grow pretty fast.

Then once your traffic is up to a decent level test out Adsense and YPN. Depending on the topic, YPN might work really well. Then search out some affiliate action that you can integrate into the articles, etc.

Thanks

Thank you all for your responses - all good advice. I always hear blogs mentioned here and there in affiliate discussions, and I wanted to know in what capacity they are used. I will take your advice and keep the blog a strictly 'for pleasure' endevour. If at some point there is good traffic, then I might use it to promote a 'for profit' site.

Again, I appreciate all of your responses, as they have given me a better understanding of this business.

^^ good resource for bookmarking your blogs and getting a bit of traffic.

Bloogs are just like any other type of site - build a page cenerted around a specific action and then promote it in the normal ways.

Monetise it through affiliate offers, leads generation, adsense - anything reallly.

What is the best way to profit from a blog:

Guess that depends on what your blog is about. An Internet marketing blog would be monetized far differently than a blog about used cars just because of the level of familarity of the users regarding marketing techniques.

What is the blog about? What is your USP? (what makes your blog unique and worth reading)

if you are actually talking about a content blog, install some kind of tracker on it (google analytics, for example) and build on content people like (that is after having loads of content).
