Hey everyone, I'm looking to create some sites (or mabe a network of sites) to get some link leverage on certain keywords for my main affiliate sites. But, I'm not sure which way is the best way to go about doing this. Here's 3 methods I'm looking at along with the pros and cons:

1. Database site
Pros:
- Lots and lots of pages
Cons:
- Getting everything indexing could be hard
- Difficult to grow/monetize

2. Autogenned content (i.e YACG)
Pros:
- Easy to set up
Cons:
- 100% Dupe content
- Might confer bad trustrank(? I'm just guessing here)

3. Autoblogs (RSS scraping on wordpress)
Pros:
- Instant traffic via trackbacks etc.
- Can be made to look legit
- Easier to monetize
Cons:
- Copyright could become a huge hassle
- Hogs a lot of sever resources. Could be problem if created en masse.

The timeframe I'm looking at is in the order of several months, so time's not really of the essence. Right now, autoblogs look like the most attractive option, but I'm a little wary about the copyright issues. I've heard of some people with autoblogs that've had blog owners threatening them to take down the scraped posts quite frequently. That could get be really annoying, I think, especially with a large network of these sites.

All in all, I want to setup a low-maintenence network that'll hopefully last for a long time. As for monetization, it'd be great if the link leveraging site makes money but that's only a secondary objective. So have I missed out any options? If not, which way do you guys think is the best fit for my scenario?

What has worked for me is to create a few authority sites, a few very targeted feeder sites with just.... helpful content and recommendations to visit my sales sites.... oh and lots of sales sites with link juice from your other sites....

The owners of the original content are annoying as hell. They will go to great lengths to get you shut down. I have personal experience in this and it is a pain in the ass. I was only copying like the first sentence or two of a post, then giving TWO links back to the original content. It didn't matter.

I would say to look into the database sites. Lots of pages are great, and the fact that you can't get all of the pages indexed is not really a problem at all. There's many ways to work on getting all of the pages indexed, but really, even if you only get 10% of 10,000 pages indexed, that's still 1000 pages.

A few things to think about: Manipulating the sites' pagerank by using javascript links to areas that you don't need pagerank (spiders can't follow so they do not pass pagerank).

Many people go through the trouble of building out these sites and doing everything they can to get pagerank, but then they don't use it wisely.

For example, if you have a contact and about page, don't send pagerank to those pages, as it is just wasted.

I would recommend testing out all your techniques. After a while of testing, you will relies that all of these techniques will improve link leverage.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try all 3. Starting with autoblogs (hopefully, for some quick cash), and then YACG sites, and finally databases.

I reread Eli's "SEO Empire" post and now I have much better idea the fuctions for all the 3 types of sites, particularly for the autoblogs (or what he calls cycle sites).

So I do have a couple more related questions for those of you doing cycle sites:

1. Which plugin is the best for scraping, wp-o-matic or autoblog?

2. Where are some places to get good feeds?

3. Do you utilize any methods to reduce the number of complaints you get?
