The best Hosting for ExpressionEngine?
-I would like the ability to edit php.ini file later i.e. from 64 to 128MB etc.
-a lot of bandwidth with ability to upgrade i.e. start with 500GB or more
-start on shared and upgrade as needed
-will not cost arm and leg but is good quality i.e. uptime etc.
-can handle some burst traffic
-SQLyog support or similar

I am searching like crazy for past few days I did not find much. All those review sites seem to be just marketing and not much of real help in selection. I do not mean to trash it - but it seems to be that. Maybe I do not know how to read.

I almost signed up with hostgator but I found some problem with their site so I send them email - they seem to have a good support as they said they their design team will fix that ,but it did not make me confident to try their service and invest the time and money in them.

So, what would be a good quality host not only for ExpressionEngine but other sites?

Now that I'm actually sober, your requirements look minimal. You could run this from a wide variety of hosts as long as they offer you root access or have just great support.

You can throw shared hosting out the window, wont cut it.

You'd probably be look at a solid VPS. Now I see your worried about price, but in the VPS world typically if you want support they come a little pricier, but if you don't know much about manging your own server then it's probably worth it.

Also the chance that your going to need to up your MB in your php.ini file is very, very slim.

Anyways I'd recommend:

  1. ZenSix - The owner is a memeber here, and these VPS's rock. You'll get more for less price than anywhere out there for a managed VPS. The problem? He doesn't always have them available for sale (damn you subigo!). Another downside is after the best VPS offer you can't move to a dedi server, because he doesn't have them.
  2. WiredTree - Have used them in the past. Support is top notch and quick, I just hate cpanel + whm. It's just a pain in the ass IMHO, but I'm sure some people dig it. Never the less a solid choice that won't let you down.
  3. LiquidWeb - The favorite of many. I've never tried them personally but have never heard anything but good stuff.
For 2 & 3 make sure to scour the web for coupon codes, you can often times save at least $10/mo on your plan and/or get more resources.

Hope that helps.
