I've noticed that rock is pretty terra-bad these days.

Only some indie / experimental bands are putting anything decent out.

Helter Skelter is more metal than a lot of the stuff nowadays that claims to be metal! And it was hardly even invented then.

Scandinavian metal is always pretty good.

erm, you're kidding right? The Heavy Metal style started in the UK with bands like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and of course, Black Sabbath.

You probably have no idea how varied metal is. Most of the metal bands that come on MTV make me want to kill myself. It would be like comparing justin bieber to pink floyd. Countries like Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Greece, fuck it, a lot of countries all across Europe each have their own original metal scene. Metal isn't just Slayer, Metallica, Drowning Pool, or whatever other band you've got in your head :)

You do realize that all of those guys were heavily influenced by the beatles or at least the success of the beatles, right? Ozzy has said on numerous occasions that he was basically trying to copy what the Beatles were doing.

whats your point? if you're talking about influences we could go on forever and talk about who the beatles were influenced by. I'm talking specifically about the start of heavy metal. Black Sabbath was a heavy metal band, arguable the very first.

I thought he was being sarcastic, but refer to my original reply about Helter Skelter for a hint of Beatles metal.

Led Zeppelin just made old blues songs heavier, but i have to agree about Sabbath and Deep Purple. Especially Black Sabbath.

Most mainstream metal now is diluted to sound like pop music. Just with heavy backing. But the fact i used the term 'mainstream metal' says it all.

There is always good music in most countries, you just have to look for it.
