back links / articles submissions

I have a couple of sites that I'm trying to get better rankings for for specific keywords. I've submitted about 5 articles in the past couple of days to hubpages, blogger, wordpress, goarticles and Squiddo. The articles are original. The don't relate directly to the websites in question. At the bottom of each article I have an anchor text backlink to each site.

I've noticed that since I've done this technique there has been a drop in the SERP's. For example, originally one of the sites was number 4 on page 5. Now it's number 10 on page 5.

I know not having related content isn't ideal, however, why would there be such a negative in Google serp's that's actually hurting/dropping my rankings for these specific keywords?

Matt Cutts released a video stating that the method is rather ineffective and seen as "spammy"

Also private blog networks being de-indexed

I guess it just makes people not want to use article marketing any longer!

Among all the SEO techniques, article submission can be one of the most successful. Article submission generally refers to the writing of articles that are relevant to your online business and then getting them added to the popular article submission directories.

article submission is good but you must get some quality links too, guest posting in other blogs on your niche is the best, and i would also use private blog networks just not the ones that were deindexed lately and not ones that have too much footprints coz they will soon be de-indexed too

It's new to me and it's not good news. Article submission was always the most popular way of link and traffic building in the past. I can understand though that it is considered spammy.

Sup with the influx of shitty spammy posts in this thread?

Anyway people that weren't laundering links shit bricks after Google Panda and have stopped submitting articles because they probably tanked in the SERPs. I still think it's useful, very useful just keep up with keyword diversity (which you should have been doing LOOOOONG before Panda made it obvious), and only point the top 15 or so article directories to your money site. Rest of the shitty article directory links should be passed through tier 2 links - obviously you shouldn't be blasting your money site with 1000s of spammy article links.

Also supply and demand. People are getting hard-ons for Social Links, so that's what's being offered a lot atm. When people had hard-ons for article links that's what was being offered a lot.

My .02 cents.

that's coz of the fucking low pays to the backbreaking article writers.. no one pays good though the article is unique and good

There are many good article submisson services, but if you have a really good article you wrote yourself I always recommend you submit it manually.

1) Article directory submission is ridiculous. The backlinks you get are not good quality. The homepage of the directory may have a good PR... But the page your article gets posted to has a beautiful PR 0 to it's name. Good quality... yeah right.

2) Article directory submission is once again a dumb way to get your content ranked. You're throwing away traffic. Let's say your article (in a directory) get's a 20% CTR, you're effectively losing 80% of the traffic you would have gotten if your article was posted on your own website.

3) Article syndication (i.e. building relationships with the relevant niche authorities and have them post your content on their blogs or in their newsletters) will get you a fuck lot more in terms of targeted traffic.
