Auto appraisals and true value?

I have been searching for some information about domain name values using services like Namebot and Estibot, and I'm getting conflicting information. I was wondering if anyone here could give me some opinions. Some places say Namebot is a joke and Estibot is closer to real value, some say they're about even in their accuracy... and most say auto appraisals are a joke period. I know that's probably true, because ultimately it's what someone is willing to pay for a name that determines what it's worth, but I got estimates just out of curiousity on two names I'd like to try to sell from both Nameboy and Estibot.. one is a N-LL.com and the other is a LLL-LLLLL.com.. Nameboy gave values of 4731.00 for the N-LL.com and 2452.00 for the other.. and Estibot says both are worth reg fees.. so now i'm confused. how do I go about determining what, if anything, they're worth? should I just stick em up on Sedo with a make an offer and see what happens?

All auto estimators are doofy jokes. If it makes you feel any better, most "professional" estimates are also jokes -- have a look at the TDNAM marketplace for auctions that have paid for an appraisal (there's an "a" beside them) and you'll see that the appraisal price and actual sales price are usually nowhere near one another (and it can go high or low.)

Putting them up for make offer can be iffy, since there may or may not be anybody interested at the time that you put them up. Check out a site like namebio.com which has daily records of sales across all the major marketplaces; this will be one of your best guides since you can see actual, current sales prices for domains similar to yours.

Hi Frank
Thanks for the input and the suggestion. I just checked namebio and definitely gives me hope for my domains. I think I'll put them up with a lower start bid and hope they take off..just cross my fingers.. only way to know what will happen is to just do it, right! LOL :)
