I just checked out the list of domains from the ASE silent auction through Moniker. There are some pretty awesome domains - xmas.com starting bid $880k. While domains those are out of my reach, there are some that are cheaper. But I still wonder if they are too expensive or will be too expensive due to the nature of auction bidding.

For example, shophybridcars.com seems reasonable at $300. Would I be crazy to bid on this?

I don't think domains at the ASE auction were particularly overpriced after a quick glance. The low sales volume is probably more a function of the audience than anything else. Plus, a lot of buyers are still catching their breath after the crazy TRAFFIC auction in NY a month ago.

Domain owners are asking a lot precisely because they have no motivation to sell. Expenses are $10 a year, and something like xmas.com probably throws off good cash during the christmas season. With selling prices appreciating at double digits yearly, why price a good domain name at a bargain?
