Are these visitor/traffic exchange sites worth it?

I've been looking at these visitor traffic sites today. The ones where a new site loads every 20-30 seconds, and you get visitor credits based on the number of sites that you view.

Are these types of sites a waste of time, or a valid tool? Also, please tell me of any (no cost, just time and effort) promotion methods that I should know of but don't because I'm a newb, lol. Thanks in advance.

Traffic exchange is a waste - though you may find some of the 3rd tier search engines get traffic from techniques like theirs (popunders, etc).

Save up 10 dollars and turn it into 15. Take that 15 and turn it into 30. Rinse and repeat.

Seriously - when I started I tried to do everything for free... and I mean everything. It ended up being a colossal waste of my time. Spend some cash and you will make a profit if you follow the advice on this forum. Just take it slow (and don't use credit cards unless you know what you're doing).
