I just realized that in 18 years of using a mouse, I've never once even tried a trackball. I can't really imagine it would be better than a mouse, but who knows... Anyone of you use one instead of a mouse? Any particular reason you think it's better?

Tried a friends... GOD AWFUL.

and do they even sell them anymore?

Yeah, Best Buy had quite a few... I've had a $50 gift card to there for over a year now and went in trying to blow it, but couldn't find anything worth buying. I almost bought a trackball for the hell of it, but since I couldn't actually test it on a PC, I decided I'd just end up returning it tomorrow, so left it there.

They're good for 3-d modeling, art, CAD, etc.

Other than that... unless you got a broken arm/wrist, I see no use for them.

they are awesome. I don't know why more people don't use them especially for fps gaming.

It takes a bit to get use to it but once you got it down you'd be surprised how accurate you can be with them especially in games. and you don't need to keep picking up the mouse and moving it back on the pad.

i freaking love mine. My table is messy as hell and i don't have space for a mouse. When you get used to trackball, you will find it faster than using a mouse

17.7"x15.7" mouse pad, if you run out of space you're doing it wrong.

I swear by my trackball.

Reason I use it is because it takes less space on the desktop. It just sits where it sits and that's it.

Yes, they take some getting used to, which brings me to my second point:

It keeps those pesky mouse-grabbers away from my computer!

I HATE when someone does that. Now it's

Pesky Idiot (grabbing for mouse, getting trackball): "Wait, letmejust.. er..what the..? Can you?"
Me: "suuuuuuuuure I can."

Trackballz 100%

Much more precision and control. Don't have to move all over the desk and run out of space like a jerk fest.

can't stand trackballs but this might be a good thread to ask about a type of one i've been trying to find for years and maybe someone will know what i'm talking about.

About 12 years ago i was on my aunts computer and she had a pad that was much like a mouse pad but slightly thicker and smaller height and width wise. In the middle was a little two button mouse type thing but it was really small. Only big enough for two fingers one on each button. The scroll wheel was where your thumb was on the wrist pad. The little button thingy floated around inside the pad so you don't move your hand you just move the little button thingy with your fingers to move the curser and you use your thumb to spin the wheel. I have no idea what its called and haven't seen one since but I still really want one and would buy it in a heartbeat if I ever found another one.

It looks really awkward to use but it was extremely natural and comfortable and very accurate. I was used to it pretty much instantly. It was also much faster than using a mouse, I could move that curser like a fuckin indy driver lol. Think about how you use your mouse if you're not an interwebs noob. You don't actually rest your palm on it and move your whole hand. You just move your fingers moving the mouse and you rest your palm on the desk or on the pad. Why not elimite the whole mouse and just use the buttons? It makes too much damn sense haha

I'm not crazy someone has got to know what i'm talking about

I've been using a mousepad, like on a laptop, but on my desktop, for about 10 years. Don't like mice of trackballs! :)

In the same boat... $50 to Amazon, no idea what to get. Might just get a new book.
